Analysing opening sequences - conclusion

During my research into opening sequences I have found that there are multiple recurring conventions and that the majority of these appear regardless of the genre the film belongs to. 

These conventions may include, but are not limited to, the introduction of key themes to the film, the introduction of tone or atmosphere and setting, as well as enigmatic techniques. Many opening sequences also include different aspects of character, setting, narrative and direction, helping the audience to form expectations of the film, aided by elements of sound, editing, camerawork and mise-en-scene.  Sound, editing, camerawork and mise-en-scene are used to help form the initial response from an audience. Through these conventions, and by incorporating some of them into my own opening sequence I aspire to create an opening sequence that is both gripping and reflects the wider standards of the media industry.
