Analysing opening sequences - 'Split'

 

The opening sequence of Split blends suspenseful music and ambiguous environments with a psychologically tense protagonist, we see hints of multiple personalities woven into the short opening sequence as well as the building suspense associated with the decline in mental state. This is further enforced through dark, muted tones and colors along side lightening designed to illuminate enigma and danger. Towards the end of the opening scene, a set of simplistic white titles are presented on a black background further solidifying the tense atmosphere and feeling of unease. We are also given genre specific tropes, such as the suspenseful music, tension lined pacing and odes to the horror genre.
