Analysing opening sequences - 'The Nun'

The second opening sequence I will be looking at is from The Nun.

The opening sequence from The Nun sets the tone of the film, though the use of dark, tense visual imagery, an intense soundtrack synonymous with the horror genre. This is paired with a de-saturated color palette and eerie silences then sudden sounds to generate suspense. Furthermore the setting is introduced to be a remote monastery, and is paired with the background information of a mysterious suicide, helping to establish an atmosphere of isolation, fear and religious trauma.
